James 1:27 exhorts us to care for the orphans and widows.
The exhortation is given to all Christians, but what that looks like lived out is different for everyone. Some are called to adopt! Some are called to encourage and visit, investing time! Some are called to support monetarily!

Please know that we have appreciated all of your prayer support and are grateful for the many who have invested time and money of your own in a young man's life who you did not know. We hope you will meet him some day soon. He will never know the amount and sacrifice made on his behalf, but I pray he will feel and truly know the love and acceptance from you! God bless!

July 31st--Doctor Check Up Day.

Our first full day in Guangzhou started out very nicely.  We went to breakfast about 0730, and at that time we were able to see the families that got in late last night. Some of them did not arrive till 1:30 a.m., so there were a few tired kids and parents.  We ate a great meal and visited with our new friends. It was fun to see how God had matched children and parents. We were able to identify with some of the weary parents that had little ones and had some rough flights and long nights.  It is a whole different set of worries with the little ones.

TB test
After breakfast we left for the medical exams.  Faith was excited to go and see how the other half of the world does well child checks.  Amy (our guide) was giving us instructions before arriving at the clinic.  She stated that she would not give us copies of the inspection, so don't ask. Her reasoning was that the inspections were superficial at best, and if our doctor could not do better at home, then we needed a new doctor!

As this is our third adoption rodeo, there wasn't really anything new to the experience. We sat patiently, talking and enjoying the time to chat with our new friends. Levi was a bit nervous since he did not know what was going to happen.  We started off with the ENT doctor.  She checked him out, found out that he had perforated eardrums, and we got a chance to look at the inside of his mouth. That was interesting. He will definitely need some serious reconstructive work...and prayer.  Next stop was the weight/measure/vision/color vision. We found out he is 80 pounds, 146cm, and he had decent vision.  He was fascinated with the blood pressure cuff and wanted to do it again.

The surgeon was the hard one. Levi had to get a FULL exam, with female doctor...funny stuff, but not for public consumption!  A lot different than taking a little baby!

After we got back to the hotel, we all kind of relaxed for a bit  and then I headed off to the "office" to do more paperwork. Faith and Levi napped, Beth had some quiet free time, and then we headed to dinner at 6.  We ate  at the Japanese restaurant in the Chinese hotel--talk about funny irony. Pretty excellent food, except I only ordered 1 meal for 4 people...we ate sparsely!  I guess I need to work on my Japanese.  The steak was incredible, all 6 bites!  But hey, we all can afford to skip a meal!
Just chilling with Dad
After dinner hour we came back to the room and relaxed some more.  It's nice to kick back out of the heat and humidity for a while.  It was funny how this whole thing has worked in God's timing.  We enjoyed "family" time, and Levi shared his photos of his friends with Faith, including the nicknames for his friends.  His nickname at the school was "short legs."  After the pictures of his friends, he got out the book we sent to him. He studied it, and he asked questions about who people were, their ages, their relationships, very very intent on getting the details. He would point to pics of his new brothers and say, "Tyler cool, Travis, cool, Yurdan cool," (that is what Jordan sounds like), and then the girls were, "Lindsey beautiful, Sophie beautiful, Amie beautiful, Ana beautiful, Jenny beautiful."  Pretty fun.  He asked how old grandpa's and grandma's were...thought the old ones were, "Good age."  He shared that his Datong momma and daddy were 46 and 48 years old. It was great that he opened up and talked about them. Real progress is being made in the relationship development department. God's work is amazing.
Talking over the family book with Goo Goo.
Thank you for your prayers, and thank you Lord for Your faithfulness and all You have provided!

That about wraps it up for Saturday.  We will miss you all in church tomorrow. We love you all.
